American Education Week 2013

At my school, all staff members belong to one of five committees.  These committees are charged with providing information and activities that support the goals of the school.  For example, our Math and Science Team organizes Pi Day, Science Fun Day, and Science Fair information sessions for the school.  Such activities promote healthy relationships with parents and the community, and provide students and teachers with exciting academic activities.

I am a member of the Literacy and Social Studies Team.  We plan and facilitate many activities throughout the school year, such as bringing in firemen to read to students, Dr. Seuss' birthday, I Love Reading Week, and Veteran's Day.  This year, to celebrate American Education Week, we proposed a door decorating contest for teachers.  We weren't sure teachers would have the time to devote to such an activity, but we thought that it would be great for students to see where each teacher went to college.  Doors had to be decorated to represent the college that the teacher attended, NOT the college they route for every season.  We ended up having quite the array of schools represented (see below).

C JacksonThe first place winner went to Ms. Connie Jackson's class.  The judges really liked that there was student work included on the door.

PinckneyThe second place winner went to Ms. Rachel Pinckney.  The judges were impressed with the 3-D aspects of her design.
