My stepdaughter suggested a book to me some time ago, and I never picked it up until the other day. I had a car appointment, and went to Target to get something new to read while waiting on my car. I saw the book Divergent by Veronica Roth on the shelf, and I remembered my stepdaughter telling me that it had been compared to The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins as another great dystopian series.
It took me a total of 2 days to read the book; that's how fast paced it was! I especially loved how the author included Bonus Materials including Q&A with the author, quotations that inspired the book, the author's suggested playlist for various scenes and chapters, discussion questions, information about each faction from the book, and so on. Another aspect of the book I smiled at was the names of the factions. In the bonus materials, Veronica Roth tells us how she chose the names, and I couldn't be more impressed by her thinking.
As far as the actual story, I like how Veronica Roth developed her characters so well. I definitely feet attached to many of the characters, and really hate a few of the others. I was slightly disappointed at one change of events that was a little too similar to another dystopian novel, but it ended up playing out nicely. I feel very involved with the characters, and just downloaded book two, Insurgent.
I suggest this book for an excellent read. Like I said, it is very fast paced and exciting.
