iPad apps for the Classroom

Are you wondering how to use your iPad in your classroom? Pondering the same question, I started doing some research on free apps for the iPad. A colleague of mine found a wonderful website, Appitic.com, that has 1800+ educational apps listed in various categories. Following is a list of some of my new favorites that I found on Appitic, under Themes-history.
European Exploration: The Age of Discovery: This app allows students to explore the new world as a European power in the 15th Century. Students get to build ships, hire captains, and so on.

U.S. Westward Expansion: This app has three categories within it: Lewis and Clark, Territories, and Causes/Effects. The Lewis and Clark section is very interactive, with short readings and questions following. Territories allows students to tap a state and enter its name. Causes and Effects allows students to visit locations, learn about them, and answer questions about the causes and effects of the westward expansion.
US Citizenship 2012: This app is designed to be a study aid for anyone taking the USCIS Civics test as part of their Citizenship Naturalization application. There are flashcards and practice quizzes. In this version of the app, there is the ability to disable flashcards after answering the question 5 times correct during quizzes. There is also a section to review answered questions from the quizzes.
Lincoln Telegrams: In this app, there are 300 digitized telegram memos written by Abraham Lincoln between March 10, 1864 and Aril 12, 1865. Each telegram is displayed in Lincoln’s handwriting, and there are options to see the transcription, summary/context, and inferences.
