EPONYMS

An eponym is a word that is derived from the name of a real, ficitonal, or spurious character or person. For example, the word bologna was named after a city in northern Italy known for its smoked sausages, and candy was named for the young French Prince Charles de Conde (con-Day) who loved sweet, sugary treats. There are thousands of eponyms used in the English language. This website gives you lots of examples.
